Deadline: 22 September 2023
The Transportation Justice Fellowship, a Better Bike Share Partnership program overseen by the National Association of Transportation Officials (NACTO), is providing an opportunity for eight individuals to be part of the 2023-2024 cohort.
This eight-month fellowship is designed to amplify the voices of people of color in transportation through professional development and networking opportunities.
The program, which will run from November 2023 through June 2024, is designed for U.S.-based early- and mid-career professionals who identify as people of color and who embed mobility justice in transportation and beyond. The goal is to create community amongst those working toward transportation justice and amplify these voices by providing professional development and networking opportunities.
The 2023-2024 Fellowship will focus on shared micromobility as a critical tool for operationalizing equity and transportation justice.
The fellowship is a unique opportunity for professionals interested in:
- Learning more about shared micromobility and how it can be used to create a more just transportation system
- Building relationships among your peers working in transportation and mobility justice
- Enhancing skills that strengthen your ability to advance justice in your organization
- Skills and tools to be able to remain and thrive in the transportation field
- Gaining knowledge and tools that you can transfer to a variety of work programs
- Identifying new opportunities for your individual and organizational growth
- Developing a project of personal interest that can be presented at NACTO’s Designing Cities Conference in May 2024 (Conference travel and accommodations are included as part of the Fellowship.)
Program Features
- The cohort will include 50 hours of programming for eight fellows, all of whom will receive training from a stellar consultant team, guest presentations from experts in the transportation sector, and coaching sessions from specialists who will work with you one-on-one to support your goals. Since the 2023-2024 fellowship will focus on shared micromobility, applications should have some familiarity with bike and scooter share, as well as a desire to learn more.
Who Should Apply?
- The program content is designed for mobility practitioners with 1-8 years of experience in the field who have — or will eventually have to — confront the dynamics of power and equity in the workplace. Professionals from marginalized groups are strongly encouraged to apply. This fellowship is only open to people of color who have experience working in transportation, shared micromobility, or an adjacent field (i.e. a health professional that works on bike share). Applicants may work in any U.S. city, as well as any sector.
- From tools for professional growth to insights on promoting equity in the transportation sector, the Transportation Justice Fellowship offers a talented group of change agents the chance to learn together and advance to the forefront of transportation justice in the U.S.
