Deadline: 15 November 2024
Submissions are now open for the Houblon-Norman and George Fellowships to promote research into and disseminate knowledge and understanding of the working, interaction and function of financial business institutions in the UK and elsewhere and the economic conditions affecting them.
Funding Information
- The total amount distributed in any year rarely exceeds £120,000.
- The award will broadly reflect the circumstances of successful candidates and reflect the time demand for their research proposal. In some circumstances, the award might take the form (in whole or part) of payment to the individual’s present employer. A further allowance may be made to cover travelling expenses or other incidental costs.
- Fellows will be provided with office accommodation at the Bank of England.
Eligibility Criteria
- Their fellowships enable successful applicants to engage in research on an economic or financial topic of their own choice, preferably one that it would be particularly beneficial to study at the Bank of England. When they consider applications, the trustees will pay particular attention to how relevant the research is to current problems in economics and finance.
- Senior fellowships will be awarded to tenured full or chaired professors. Fellowships will also be available to all other ranks, including postdoctoral or equivalent applicants. The length of the fellowship is flexible, but will not normally be less than one month or longer than one year.
- They are particularly interested in applications from candidates undertaking their fellowship whilst on sabbatical leave.
- Fellows will not be able to carry out teaching or other paid work during their tenure without the trustees’ consent.
