Submissions are now open for the Pete Carpenter Fellowship for aspiring media composers.
Funding Information
- The program awards two $3,000 awards each Fall for an intensive, in-studio mentorship with established composers in New York and Los Angeles, as well as offering the opportunity to consult with other distinguished leaders in the entertainment industry.
Eligibility Criteria
- All applicants:
- Must be at least 21 years of age as of the submission deadline.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States at the time of submitting an application. Candidates who are in the process of applying for or receiving authorization to work in the US do not qualify.
- Must be available during the Fall/Spring for fellowship activities; applicants enrolled in classes for the 2025-2026 academic year will not be considered for the fellowship.
- Must be pursuing a career in TV, film, and/or video game composition.
- May only submit one application per BMI Foundation awards program.
- May not submit the same musical work to more than one BMI Foundation awards program.
Ineligibility Criteria
- Co-composed or shared credit work is ineligible.
Application Requirements
- Re-scores of existing copyrighted visual material are acceptable. These samples will be kept private, and not used for any purpose beyond evaluating applications. Please keep in mind that any public sharing of these re-scored film clips will be considered as infringement by the original copyright holders.
- You may submit this recording as a video file or audio file. While they prefer score to picture, they will accept audio-only submissions that reflect your strongest narrative musical excerpt.
- Additionally, you will be required to provide a written description of the scene or genre that inspired your music.
- The submitted work must be a 1-3 minute composition. It is recommended to submit a single composition representing your best work.
