The Goethe Institute, in cooperation with the Südwestrundfunk (SWR), annually awards the “Karl-Sczuka-Research Fellowship” for international radio art projects as an additional prize to the Karl-Sczuka-Prize.
This is awarded annually by Südwestrundfunk (SWR) as part of the Donaueschinger Musiktage. The internationally renowned prize is awarded to the “best production of a radio work that uses musical materials and structures in acoustic forms of play”.
What they fund?
- The aim of the research grant, which is endowed with 5,000 euros, is to support the research phase for international radio art projects, which is often only possible under rudimentary conditions, and thus to strengthen the willingness to engage with other cultural spaces through a research stay in non-German-speaking countries. The Goethe-Institut supports the winner by providing contacts to relevant institutes abroad in the Goethe-Institut network.

- Who work in the field of acoustic and time-based art (radio, performance and sound artists)
- Who deal with the narrative, technical and artistic possibilities of the medium of radio
- Who are based in Germany.
- The research grant will be used for a stay in a non-German-speaking country.
- The submitted work comes from the field of radio art.
