The Sundance Institute is pleased to invite applications for its Graton fellowship to cultivate a stage for artists from federally and non-federally recognized California Indian tribes to tell their stories through film.
The Indigenous Program seeks two fellows in 2025, and they would be provided with a yearlong continuum of support with mentorship opportunities and activities, including a trip to the Sundance Film Festival and access to strategic and creative services offered by Sundance Institute artist programs.
Funding Information
- Grant amount: $25,000 cash grant each.
Eligibility Criteria
- Indigenous artists who are from a California-based tribe and can provide proof of tribal affiliation or lineal descendancy.
Evaluation Criteria
- The Indigenous Program staff will thoroughly review each application, and decisions will be made by November 2024. Additional verification of tribal enrollment or affiliation is completed by the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria. Applicants will receive a notification by email from the Indigenous Program.
Application Requirements
- All applicants must submit a completed online application by the deadline.
- In addition to responses to the required application questions, a complete application includes a full script (narrative feature) or synopsis/outline (documentaries only), two professional reference letters from persons familiar with your work, a short bio, headshot, résumé and proof of tribal affiliation or lineal descendancy to a California-based tribe.
- Examples of proof of tribal affiliation or lineal descendancy may include your Tribal ID card, CDIB, or any other documentation that may pertain to your connection to your tribal community.
