The International Journalists’ Programmes is inviting applications for its Ernst Cramer and Teddy Kollek Fellowship for young journalists from Israel, providing an opportunity to spend two months in Germany.
Objective
- The fellowship is intended to enable young journalists to familiarize themselves with the political issues in Germany at an early stage of their career. This will raise awareness of aspects of German-Israeli relations in future multipliers and will give them a personal insight into mentality, culture and everyday life in Germany and the European Union.
- The practical aspect of the fellowship facilitates professional networking with local journalists, with the goal of maintaining these connections for years to come.
Funding Information
- Each fellow receives a grant of 5,000 Euro. This sum is intended to cover a significant portion of the travel costs, board and lodging.
- Fellows are expected to contribute partially to their costs. There will be no payment provided for the individual’s work on location as a journalist.
- The fellowship begins with an introductory event in Berlin from October 29 – 31, 2025, together with the German fellows. This is followed by a German language course and a two-month fellowship at a German media outlet.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applications may be submitted by any Israeli citizen aged 21 or over who is working as a regular employee, trainee or journalist for Israeli or Arab media. At least two candidates from Germany and two from Israel will be selected.
- The maximum age is 37 years.
Selection Criteria
- After an initial selection process, the finalists may be invited for a selection interview or conference call.
- Legal action in respect of the final decision shall be barred.
- Notification will be sent to the successful candidates by mid-August.
Application Requirements
- The application should include a detailed CV with a passport photo, and a journalistic appraisal written by the head of department or editor-in-chief.
- The letter should support the application, guarantee temporary leave of absence for the duration of the fellowship, and serve as evidence of journalistic activity.
- Samples of previous work may be enclosed.
- A strong English proficiency is required.
- While knowledge of German will naturally be welcomed, this is not an essential requirement for an application.
- All fellows are required to submit a three-page report upon completion of the fellowship on their experience, activities and impressions in the country.
