Are you a Turkish young human rights defender looking to gain international experience and sharpen your skills? The EuroMed Rights, in partnership with the Human Rights Association in Turkey and the Human Rights Joint Platforms is launching the Human Rights Fellowship Programme to support the next generation of human rights advocates in Turkey.
This unique opportunity offers hands-on experience with international human rights organisations, tailored training, and global networking.
The Fellowship aims to provide emerging human rights leaders and it’s a 3-month learning opportunity for the candidate to enhance their skills, knowledge, and practical experience in human rights advocacy in Turkey.
The Fellow will engage in various human rights activities with a focus on monitoring, advocacy, media, and capacity-building initiatives. They will contribute to EMR’s ongoing work on human rights issues, including the personal security of defenders, combating impunity, addressing torture, and promoting gender equality, among other key areas.
Funding Information
- This fellowship will provide a stipend in the form of financial support rather than remuneration for services to cover living expenses during the fellowship period.
- EuroMed Rights will pay 2,500 EUR per month to cover those expenses. Travel, accommodation, and other logistical support will be provided as necessary.
- Duration: The fellowship will last for three months.
Role and Responsibilities
- The fellow’s primary tasks will focus on supporting the work of the Turkey Coordinating and contributing to the overall goals of the organization, but are not limited to:
- Involve in the coordination and implementation of activities related to the Turkey Programme on Empowering Civil Society to Fight Impunity to increase the capacity of the candidate through meetings, workshops, and trainings.
- Contribute to research on human rights issues in Turkey, monitoring relevant developments, and assisting in drafting reports and policy briefs as a part of developing new skills.
- Contribute to the development of communication and advocacy materials, and support advocacy efforts related to Turkey.
- Increase practical knowledge on logistical support for events, including scheduling, preparing materials, and assisting in the dissemination of outputs.
- On-the-job training on the development of training and networking opportunities for human rights defenders in Turkey, and involvement in organising related events.
- Enhancing capacity through taking part in proposal writing and fundraising efforts related to the Turkey Programme.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must:
- Be aged 18 to 28 at the time of application
- Hold Turkish citizenship
- Have experience in human rights work (volunteering or employment)
- Be fluent in English or French
- Demonstrate commitment to human rights and social justice
- Educational Background: A relevant degree in International Relations, Human Rights, Political Science, Law, or a related field.
- Language Proficiency: Fluency in English (written and spoken). Working proficiency in Turkish is required.
- Research Skills: Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to gather, organize, and synthesize information.
- Writing Skills: Excellent writing and drafting abilities in English.
- Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team.
- Organizational Skills: Proven ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
- Computer Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software.
- Commitment to Human Rights: A demonstrated interest in and commitment to human rights issues, particularly in the Middle East region.
- Preference will be given to individuals from diverse backgrounds and underrepresented communities or regions.
