Deadline: 31 January 2025
The Australian National University Philippines Institute offers short-term visiting fellowships for outstanding academics based in the Philippines to undertake research at the ANU for up to two months.
Visiting Fellows will work with the Institute in order to develop new research collaborations and/or deepen existing partnerships within ANU and/or other academics across Australia. Their fellowship scheme supports academics working on projects that strongly align with the Institute’s overall objectives and priority areas.
Areas of Research
- The priority research areas are:
- Strategic studies and foreign policy;
- Economic resilience;
- Gender, women’s empowerment and peace;
- The ongoing pursuit of peace, development and political stability in Mindanao;
- Other threats to stability such as climate change, food insecurity and the energy crisis;
- Rule of law, human rights and judicial governance; and
- Governance, politics and political communications.
Program Pillars
- To contribute to the overarching goals, the Philippines Project will focus on two program pillars:
- Pillar 1: Stronger Philippines Research Partnerships and Practices – this will see stronger linkages and networks between Australian and Philippines-based academics and policymakers, between academic institutions, and with relevant interest groups.
- Pillar 2: Better Informed Policymakers – this will see policymakers in the Philippines and Australia have increased access to, and be influenced by, relevant, high quality policy research and analysis.
Funding Information
- Each visiting Fellow is eligible to receive up to $12,000 AUD for a two-month stay:
- Up to $10,000 for subsistence and accommodation costs; and
- Up to $2,000 AUD for travel expenses
- While this fellowship provides financial support for your time in Canberra, it is not designed to cover all associated expenses. Applicants are encouraged to review Canberra’s average weekly living costs before applying and ensure they can cover any additional expenses that exceed the maximum fellowship award amount.
