Do you want to be a leader in addressing Iraq’s water and environment crisis? The Institute of Regional and International Studies (IRIS) at the American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS) is pleased to open applications for the Youth for Accountability in Environmental Governance (YAEG) program.
The YAEG program aims to engage young Iraqi civil society and political leaders in identifying sources of mismanagement in environmental governance and in developing accountability mechanisms to improve performance.
Over the course of two residential sessions in Sulaimaniya, and with the help of expert mentors and current and former officials, the program will help 20 young leaders from all over Iraq and KRI to understand the inner workings of Iraq’s water environmental governance across the relevant government departments, including drivers of inefficiency, provide them with the skills and networks they need to develop bottom-up accountability mechanisms to hold water and environmental governance actors accountable.
Eligibility Criteria
- Candidates applying to the YAEG program should be:
- Iraqi citizens and residents of Iraq.
- Between the ages of 20 and 30.
- Engaged in previous activities related to environmental governance and activism.
- Have exceptional academic, professional, or personal achievements.
- Committed to attending both workshops.
- Fluent in Arabic or English.
- Positive in their attitude, and have demonstrated perseverance and initiative.
- Coachable and in search of feedback.
- Humble and able to ask for help.
- Results-oriented, mission-driven, and innovative.
