Deadline: 1 April 2024
The U.S. Consulate General Osaka-Kobe of the U.S. Department of State announces an open competition for organizations to submit applications to design, implement, and oversee a skill building seminar series for women who are interested in serving in political office.
Program Objectives
- Though there are many Japanese women with the motivation and ability, they are prevented from entering the world of politics due to a lack of mentorship, understanding of requisite processes, harassment, and other barriers.
- The successful applicant will plan and run a series of workshops for women interested in becoming politicians.
- The workshops will cover topics such as practical procedural knowledge on running for office, qualities and skills required to be successful, facing harassment as a women candidate, simulations of specific activities of managing a campaign, and more.
- The grantee will enlist the support and participation of existing women politicians in regions including Kansai, Hokuriku, Shikoku, and Chugoku, as speakers and mentors for the participants. American experts and women politicians should also participate online or in-person by offering lectures on topics such as the history of women politicians’ fight against discrimination and the current state of election campaigns in the United States.
- By the end of the workshop, participants should have an image of their own campaigns, a concrete understanding on the steps they should take to run for office, and a strong network of experienced women politicians and fellow aspiring candidates.
