Deadline: 11 February 2025
The Gabo Foundation and Biblioteques de Barcelona are organizing, with the support of the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Knowledge, through the National Library of Colombia, and in alliance with CAF, the workshop on cultural expressions ‘Narrating Barcelona from Gabo’s perspective’, led by journalist Juan Villoro with the support of guest expert Xavi Ayén.
The activity will be held in person in Barcelona from March 17 to 21, 2025, from 10 am to 6 pm. This workshop is held within the framework of the activities of ‘From 10 to 100’, a program that commemorates the legacy of Gabriel García Márquez on the way to the centenary of his birth. This 5-day in-person workshop will explore artistic and cultural expressions originating in or related to Latin America in Barcelona, bringing together a group of 15 storytellers in the city to revive, through the writing of chronicles, the legacy of Gabriel García Márquez.
Each participant will be required to produce a non-fiction chronicle about the city, inspired by the Nobel Prize winner’s visit, for which they will have the training and guidance of the workshop teacher and the subsequent support of an editor.
Eligibility Criteria
- This call is aimed at writers and non-fiction storytellers (they do not need to be journalists) from Latin America who live in Barcelona, with proposals and an interest in telling stories about cultural initiatives, expressions or habits of the city.
- During and after the workshop, participants are expected to produce a chronicle or profile on Ibero-American cultural movements, figures and expressions related to the city of Barcelona. Reporting topics may range from traditional expressions to art movements or other contemporary forms of expression.
- Proposals that address themes related to Ibero-American culture, inspired by Gabriel García Márquez’s stay in Barcelona, will be valued positively. These conditions will be taken into account when selecting participants, in addition to the quality of the proposals submitted.
