The UNESCO Transcultura Programme, funded by the European Union and implemented by the UNESCO Regional Office in Havana, has partnered with Mad’in Europe, is a growing professional network that connects European craftspeople – including creative jewellers – to provide Caribbean young jewellery designers and ceramists with a tailor-made artistic exchange-training-exhibition opportunity for the first time in Italy.
The programme Transcultura: Integrating Cuba, the Caribbean and the European Union through Culture and Creativity, implemented by UNESCO and funded by the European Union, harnesses the Caribbean’s rich cultural diversity and turns it into a driver for sustainable development, through exchange and cooperation in the region and with the European Union.
The Transcultura programme actively strives to act as a cultural bridge between the Cultural and Creative sectors in the Caribbean. By providing this significant artistic exchange-training-exhibition opportunity in Europe, the programme aims to facilitate a more integrated, regular and extensive participation of young Caribbean jewellery designers and ceramists in the European jewellery and ceramic market.
Objectives
- The main objectives of this collaborative between the UNESCO Transcultura programme and Mad’in Europe are to:
- provide young Caribbean jewellery designers and ceramists a unique opportunity to learn new techniques through artistic exchange and training with renowned European industry professionals;
- enhance the international exposure of young Caribbean jewellery designers and ceramists by showcasing their creative work in a dedicated international exhibition;
- identify further opportunities for mutual collaboration between Caribbean and European jewellery designers and ceramists.
Benefits
- Through this call and joint action for cultural exchange and cooperation, the UNESCO Transcultura programme will:
- cover the costs (a return trip in economy class, airport pick-up and drop-off, including at the city of origin, visa costs – if necessary– , accommodation in a 3-star hotel – or similar – in Caltagirone, Italy, 3 meals a day and daily transportation ̶ if necessary – for international mobility to Caltagirone, Italy, from 22 to 28 September (6 nights) for a maximum of 18 young jewellery designers and ceramists from the Caribbean, representing at least two of the three linguistic zones covered by the Transcultura programme (English, French and Spanish).
- facilitate knowledge sharing between the Caribbean creators and renowned European jewellery designers and ceramists through specialized workshops, introducing new jewellery and ceramic techniques to enhance the competitiveness of their artistic portfolios;
- boost the international exposure of the young Caribbean jewellery designers and ceramists by showcasing their work in an international exhibition, while fostering potential collaborations with renowned European counterparts;
- promote the artists’ international visibility through press conferences, promotional activities, the distribution of a brochure with their profile and professional biography and networking events with European peers to familiarize them with the European jewellery and ceramic sector.
- This initiative will provide young Caribbean jewellery designers and ceramists with new tools and professional connections to develop and advance their careers.
Who can apply?
- Young jewellery designers and/or ceramists from the Caribbean, between 18 and 35 years, who are citizens and legal residents of any of the seventeen Caribbean countries in the geographical scope of the Transcultura programme: Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Montserrat, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago.
