Deadline: 18 May 2024
Applications are now open for the Tendril-Višni Summer Artist Residency 2024 for artists from diverse backgrounds to converge, collaborate, and create within the scenic locales of Struga and Višni.
The Tendril-Višni Summer Artist Residency 2024 marks an innovative collaboration between the culturally rich town of Struga and the picturesque village of Višni (part of the Struga region). Building upon previous residences and group exhibitions in 2023 and 2022, this residency seeks to nurture interdisciplinary and cross-cultural dialogue and artistic exploration.
The residency will culminate in a group exhibition showcasing work developed throughout the residency that responds to the unique cultural and environmental context of Struga and Višni. The residency will maintain a balance between structured programming and unstructured time for individual artistic exploration and community interaction.
A significant focus of the residency will be engaging with the local communities of Struga and Višni. Participants will interact with residents through workshops, public presentations, and community-based projects. The residency aims to bridge cultural divides and foster mutual understanding between international artists and the local populace, enriching the cultural fabric of both towns.
Objectives
- Foster international collaboration and cultural exchange.
- Engage with the art scene and local communities of Struga and Višni.
- Explore themes of community, ecology, and tourism through contemporary art.
- Envision speculative futures for Struga and Višni.
- Connect contemporary art to local context.
- Strengthen relationships between local and international artists for future collaborative projects.
- Develop avenues for multidisciplinary collaboration.
Themes and Activities
- Through workshops, lectures, and artistic interventions, participants will contemplate the role of artists in shaping community narratives, ecological sustainability and tourism, and cultural heritage preservation. This will be done by exploring the potential of new materials and processes in old spaces, and traditional materials and processes in new spaces. They will explore these themes through an artistic lens of imagining perceptual, material, and emotional connections to this environment in the future.
