The U.S. Mission to Guinea-Bissau is pleased to announce its applications for the Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program to bring international secondary level teachers to the United States for a six-week program to take academic seminars for professional development at a host university and to observe and share their expertise with teachers and students at the host university and at local secondary schools.
The program offers general academic seminars with a focus on new teaching methodologies, student-centered learning, content-based instruction, lesson planning, instructional technology training for teachers, and a variety of relevant professional development and cultural activities. Participant teachers have a practicum of at least 40 hours with a U.S. partner teacher in local secondary schools.
Eligibility Criteria
- Eligible applicants must be:
- Current secondary-level (middle and high school), full-time teachers of English, English as a Foreign Language (EFL), math, science, foreign language, social studies, journalism, or communications, including special education teachers in those subjects;
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent;
- Minimum of three years of full-time teaching experience by the start of the program, with a preference for those who have completed at least five years of full-time teaching;
- Demonstrated oral and written English language proficiency;
- Be a citizen and resident of Guinea-Bissau;
- Be willing to continue teaching after completion of the program;
- Be between the age of 30-50 years old.
