Deadline: 30 June 2024
The Systems Leadership Programme for population health in times of scarcity is now open for applications.
Over the two-year systems leadership programme, Sciana’s seventh cohort will exchange strategies, pioneering work, innovations and bold ideas in their work across Germany, Switzerland and the UK towards advancing population health. Fellows will incubate and experiment with new cross-boundary collaborations through an applied leadership project, called the Sciana challenge.
The programme is led by programme co-leads, Sir David Behan and Mary Helen Pombo, who collaborate closely with the partner foundations, Sciana advisors, and experts in the field.
Programme Structure
- This cohort-based programme consisting of four residential meetings over a two-year period. Each cohort brings of 18 fellows from Germany, Switzerland and the UK. A significant portion of the programme structure is dedicated to an applied health leadership project referred to as the Sciana Challenge. Comparative health system learning, and cohort-specific interests are also incorporated into the programme content. Through a co-development process, fellows make suggestions on programme speakers, topics and format of engagement.
- The programme focuses on key topics which have an impact on health and health systems, specifically five major areas, such as: the improvement of population health, leadership and implementation of reforms and policies within healthcare systems, workforce shortages, sustainable healthcare systems to mitigate the impact of climate change on public health.
- In the spirit of Salzburg Global residential programmes, the designs of programme sessions seek to cultivate a trusting community of health leaders and a peer-support dynamic among fellows. Therefore, ample opportunities are offered for networking and for participants to get to know one another – fellows, guest speakers, the foundations and the Salzburg Global team.
- Sciana runs two cohort programmes in parallel, which allows each cohort to meet and engage with fellows of the outgoing and incoming cohort at each residential meeting.
Benefits
- Fellows have valued the time and space away from their day-to-day to reflect on the future of health, connects leaders from various professions, countries and systems and fosters a long-lasting connections and friendship. You can reflect on your leadership approach, improve and enlarge your skills for yourself and others.
Duration
- Sciana Fellows are required to attend all four of the three-day gatherings in Salzburg over two years. Fellows are also encouraged to work in smaller project teams in between formal meetings to collaborate on joint projects, which involves two to four hours per month. Fellows typically remain active within the Network and invited to contribute to Sciana beyond their initial two-year fellowship.
Activities
- Many network activities are informally organized by fellows. However, Sciana welcomes all cohort Fellows to participate in a range of opportunities, such as:
