The Fulbright Commission through its Spanish Association for the American Studies Program (SAAS) is offering a scholarship in the field of “American Studies” aimed at Spanish or EU researchers with a maximum of 10 years of professional experience.
The purpose of this scholarship is to contribute to the development of studies on the United States and to expand the possibilities of quality research in American centers.
Funding Information
- One-off allowance of €6,000 to cover travel and subsistence expenses.
- From 3 to 12 months, without possibility of renewal.
Benefits
- They therefore have the support of the binational Commission and the managing agencies in the United States, which will provide them with the following services free of charge:
- Scholarship management and administration.
- Support, management and advisory services through IIE, the managing body in the USA.
- Participation in seminars and cultural and scientific activities organized in the name of and by the Fulbright Program, provided that the budget of the Program allows it.
- Subscription of a health and accident insurance policy for the person receiving the scholarship for 100,000 USD.
- Required official documentation and processing fees for the “Exchange Visitor (J-1)” visa for the person receiving the scholarship and the corresponding ones for the family members his/her position to accompany him/her.
- One year of free membership to SAAS upon your return to Spain.
Eligibility Criteria
- Have dual Spanish and American nationality, automatic right to obtain it (for example, by birth or filiation) or have a residence permit.
- Permanent residence in the U.S.
- Enjoy any other type of scholarship or financial aid granted for concepts identical or similar without the prior authorization of the Commission and SAAS.
- Be an employee or have a first-degree kinship relationship with a member or director of the Commission or SAAS.
- Having previously enjoyed a Fulbright postdoctoral scholarship in the two years prior to the stay.
- Possess adequate knowledge of the English language, which will be verified through a personal interview.
Ineligibility Criteria
- Spanish nationality or from another country of the European Union. They are not eligible for the scholarship.
Selection Criteria
- A pre-selection of candidates will take place in February 2025, in which the documentation presented by each applicant will be assessed according to the following criteria: interest in the project, academic merits, suitability of the host group or center for the proposed research project, proof of support from the host center to the visiting researcher through the invitation letter, interest in said research in the field of North American studies in Spain and its possible development, and professional experience. Preference will be given to those who do not have recent university or professional experience in the USA.
Application Requirements
An application will be considered complete if it consists of:
- The electronic application form that includes:
- Personal data
- Academic data
- Professional data
- Research project, in Spanish (minimum 1,000 and maximum 1,500 words), which should follow the following scheme:
- Objective: description of the research project to be developed in the USA.
- UU. and the planning of its temporary development at destination.
- Importance: explanation of the importance of the project itself for the academic, research and professional development of the candidate and its practical application upon returning to Spain.
- Host institution: Name of the institution from which the invitation letter was received, start and end dates of the stay and the reason why the host centre was selected (maximum 500 words).
- Documentation attached to the electronic application:
- Doctorate degree or ID or passport
- Recent photograph.
- Curriculum Vitae in Spanish, maximum 4 pages.
- Invitation letter to the American center where the research work will be carried out, indicating the start and end dates of the stay.
