Study of the U.S. Institutes (SUSIs) for Scholars and Secondary Educators are post-graduate level short-term academic programs for mid-career foreign scholars, faculty, practitioners, and secondary educators whose purpose is to strengthen curricula and to improve the teaching about the United States in academic institutions abroad.

- SUSI for Scholars is a fully funded summer program in the United States for foreign university faculty and scholars to enhance their understanding of U.S. society, culture, values, and institutions. The program aims to strengthen curricula and improve teaching quality about the United States. SUSI scholars complete a four-week academic residency at a U.S. university followed by a one to two-week study tour to another part of the United States. Recent subjects covered include American politics and political thought, journalism and media, contemporary American literature, economics and sustainable development, U.S. culture, identity, and society, and foreign policy.
- SUSI for Secondary School Educators is a fully funded 5-week summer program in the United States that helps secondary school educators and administrators gain a greater understanding of U.S. society, culture, values, and institutions. SUSI educators complete a four-week academic residency at a university in the United States, followed by a one-week study tour in another region of the United States. The institutes provide content and materials for developing high school curricula concerning the United States, but do not cover teaching methods or pedagogy.
Eligibility Criteria
- SUSI for Scholars:
- Applicants must be Saudi Citizens (dual citizens are not eligible) and mid-career professionals (typically ages of 30-50).
- They must have a PhD and substantial knowledge of the topic of the chosen Institute, working-level English proficiency, and little to no prior experience in the United States.
- SUSI for Secondary School Educators:
- Applicants must be Saudi Citizens (dual citizens are not eligible), mid-career educators and administrators (typically between the ages of 30-50) with working-level English proficiency.
