Residency Programme for Chilean Artists and Curators

Deadline: 7 July 2024

The Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage of Chile, the Institut Français of Chile, and the Cité internationale des arts in Paris are launching a call for the residency program, aimed at artists and curators working and residing in Chile, to promote and facilitate their international mobility, as well as to expand their professional network.

This residency program is part of the promotion of creative ecosystems, with a multisectoral perspective and new technological processes. In this context, the candidate curators and artists are invited to conceive a research and/or creation project on the following theme: Technology and Digital Innovation: Articulating new technological and digital processes in creative development, considering the challenges of the contemporary world. This theme invites the development of new forms of expression, transmission of concepts and ideas based on the heterogeneous relationship that arises from new technologies and artistic or creative expressions. This call invites to rethink the relationship between art and technology or digital innovation in its processes.

As part of this program, two three-month residencies are offered at the Cité internationale des arts in Paris:

  • A research-creation residency for artists
  • A residency for curators

Artists or curators welcomed in residence at the Cité internationale des arts will be able to organize their working time according to the needs related to the research they wish to undertake. This program aims to respond to the varied socio-professional realities of artists and curators, by proposing mobility from Chile to Paris within an international research and creation space, and by making compatible a time of reflection, research, and engagement with the local artistic scene.

Objectives

  • The Cité internationale des arts is an artist residency located in the heart of Paris, bringing together artists and researchers and enabling them to carry out a creation or research project in all disciplines, without any production obligation.
  • The objective of the residency program is to facilitate mobility and support the research and expansion of the professional network of artists and curators rooted in the Chilean scene, by allowing them to benefit from privileged support, professional networking, and a three-month residency in Paris, accompanied by financial support.

What you will get?

  • The program includes:
    • Professional support and networking with the community of 325 artists in residence, of all nationalities, disciplines, and generations, as well as with external professionals, according to the residency projects.
    • The opportunity to showcase the work developed during the residency at the open studio events of the Cité internationale des arts, which are attended weekly by professionals, artists, residents, and the general public.
    • The provision of a living and working space at the Cité internationale des arts.
    • A living stipend of 950,000 Chilean pesos gross per month.
    • A research/production grant of 950,000 Chilean pesos gross for the entire stay.
    • Coverage of round-trip transportation between Chile and the Cité internationale des arts in Paris, as well as travel insurance costs.
    • French language courses before and during the residency (a cost of 44,000 Chilean pesos for the purchase of educational materials remains the responsibility of the selected artists).

Eligibility Criteria

  • To participate in the call for applications, the artist must:
    • Be of Chilean nationality or have a permanent residence permit in Chile.
    • Reside and work in Chile.
    • Present an artistic or research (curation) project that aligns with the theme: “Articulating new technological and digital processes in creative development.”
    • Be able to communicate in French or English.
    • Complete the application form in French or English found at the end of this document in its entirety; incomplete applications will not be considered.
    • Be available for the entire residency period: from Monday, November 04, 2024, to Monday, January 27, 2025.
    • Present a project that falls within the following fields: visual arts, audiovisual and cinema, performing arts, music, writing, crafts, design. Multidisciplinary projects are welcome.
    • Only applications from individuals who are legal adults are eligible. Moreover, it is only possible to apply for one of the two residencies. It is the responsibility of the selected candidates to have the necessary travel documents. These documents must be valid and up-to-date.
    • In addition to evaluating the candidate’s professional background, the jury members will pay special attention to:
      • The artistic quality of the portfolio and the research project presented.
      • The relevance of the argument justifying the need to carry out this residency in France and at the Cité internationale des arts in particular.
      • The relevance of the proposed work protocol and the contacts or partnerships already established in the perspective of this residency.
