The UNESCO Regional Office for South Asia plans to implement a project “Women for Bees: Empowering the women from Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve and Agasthyamala Biosphere Reserve in India” by providing them with alternate income source through eco-friendly beekeeping practices that align with the biodiversity goals of the Biosphere Reserve”.
Within the context of the Office’s Science Programme, under the authority of the Director and direct supervision of the Head of Science Sector, the Office is seeking a Contractor that shall undertake activities to Equip women from local communities in Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve with beekeeping skills and business knowledge to enhance their economic independence and leadership roles within their communities and/or Conduct a feasibility study in the Agasthyamala Biosphere Reserve to assess the current knowledge, skills, and resources available for beekeeping by women.
Duration
- The contract will be for a duration of 8 months to be completed by October 2025 for both the tasks in which the following tasks will be required to be undertaken.
Eligibility Criteria
- Mandatory Required Service Provider Criteria:
- At least 10 years of organizational experience in working with local communities in Biosphere Reserve for environmental and livelihood issues particularly in the skills mentioned above or similar skills.
- Prior experience of minimum 2 years providing training in beekeeping
- Desirable Service Provider Criteria:
- Knowledge and understanding of the working with UN organizations and experience of working with local communities from Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve and Agastamalya Biopshere Reserve will be added advantage.

- Project Leader
- Mandatory Requirement:
- 10 years of experience in environment and social sector. The project leader will be responsible for providing overall direction and guidance to the team and interface with UNESCO, Biosphere Reserve Managers and other key partners and stakeholders.
- Minimum University degree in Environmental Sciences, Rural Management, or relevant fields of study.
- Knowledge and understanding of the working with international organization and UN organizations will be added advantage
- Mandatory Requirement:
- Research team/trainers
- Mandatory Requirement:
- Minimum 3 years of specific work experience in providing training in beekeeping at the local/national/international level
- Minimum university degree or expertise compatible with terms of reference of this Request for Proposal (RFP)
- It will be desirable that the trainers to have worked in biosphere reserve
- Knowledge and understanding of the working with UN organizations will be added advantage.
