The Teach for Romania is looking for those teachers who want to do things differently, who know that the educational process, especially in disadvantaged environments, faces many challenges and are willing to help solve them.
The program aims to equip these people in the system with the necessary skills to act strategically and produce sustainable change. They are looking for teachers who are willing to go the extra mile and need a community of like-minded people to work with; of mentors to provide them with resources to achieve their goals; by a team of professionals to stand behind their ideas and work and support them. Capitalizing on the training, mentoring and resources of Teach for Romania, you can start changing things the way you know they need to be changed!
Eligibility Criteria
- Teach is for you if:
- You are a beginning teacher: You are passionate and entered the system to do your job well. You feel you need guidance and a team of empathetic peers who are going through the same process.
- You are an experienced teacher: You have been struggling with problems in the system for a long time and you feel the need for a community that faces the same challenges and does not give up. Do you want a fresh perspective on how you might respond to the needs and challenges of your classroom or do you want to specialize in the development of literacy, numeracy, environmental education, social-emotional education.
- You are a school principal: You need support to build a united chancellery and a school that works for students.
- They encourage you, before you set off, to make sure that:
- You understand that the Teach for Romania program represents an initial commitment of 2 years of involvement as an educator, teacher, teacher or director in a public school with a high degree of disadvantage, according to the IRSE index. If you are not working in such a school now, you will have to change your job.
- You will be available full-time for 5 consecutive weeks, in July-August 2025, to participate in the Leadership and Education Training Academy. Of these, 3 weeks will involve relocation to a vulnerable community;
- You will adapt your planning or integrate the principles of Teach for Romania, understanding that the program does not only involve training, but also mentoring and support in the implementation of the taught methods.
- During the 2 years of the program, you will be periodically available for evening and weekend training. Considering the large number of participants and their different teaching schedules, the trainings can only take place during these “free time” intervals.
- You will intervene in the classroom, but also beyond it, in the chancellery and in the community where the students live, where Teach for Romania aims to fight against school dropout, discrimination and inequity, and for the safety of the child, equal opportunities for quality education.
- You have no history of any kind of non-respect of children’s rights and freedoms, you have not abused (physically, emotionally, psychologically, sexually and economically cf. Law no. 272/2004, Section 3, art. 94) any child and you can provide the criminal record, upon request.
