Open Call for Residency Videotage 2026

Deadline: 11 June 2025

Are you a designer, maker or observer in the field of digital culture? Do you want to research and develop new work in Hong Kong through various forms of media art that focus on social and urban dynamics? The Creative Industries Fund NL is offering a residency period at media art institution Videotage in Hong Kong in the spring of 2026.

The Videotage residency encourages crossover and experimentation, and offers an opportunity to learn from other perspectives and ideas. Participants will have the space to research, broaden their network, and develop new work with a focus on social and urban dynamics in Hong Kong. They will be able to explore new areas of work, broaden their creative practice, and produce work that pushes the boundaries of digital culture. The 2026 edition takes the concept of liminal space as a starting point and invites participants to explore this theme within the context of the residency.

Funding Information

  • Number of grants: one residency of two or three months.
  • Amount: €5,000 for a period of two months or €6,500 for a period of three months.
  • Residency periods: March 24, 2026-May 19, 2026 or March 24, 2026-June 16, 2026.
  • This is intended for travel costs, living expenses, compensation for time invested and material and transport costs. The costs for accommodation, use of the studio space and facilitation will be paid directly by the Creative Industries Fund NL to Videotage.

Program Details

  • Accommodation: During the residency period at Videotage, the organization will accommodate one participant. The stay will be provided by Videotage.
  • Guidance: During the residency period, Videotage will provide curatorial and practical guidance and, where relevant, introduce the resident to its extensive network.
  • Facilities: Videotage provides workspace and equipment on their premises, as well as access to the archive – the Videotage Media Art Collection (VMAC) – dedicated to preserving and expanding a diverse collection of video and media art in Hong Kong. Applicants are expected to be able to work independently. Space at Videotage can be used for production, with Videotage able to facilitate production aspects by appointment.
  • Program: The residency period consists of a research period and a final presentation period, during which presentation space at Videotage can be used. At the end of the residency period, an event will be organized to present the work developed or in development to the local Videotage network in Hong Kong.
