Tokyo Arts and Space is pleased to announce an open call for the Local Creator Residency Program that aims to invite distinguished and highly motivated Japan-based creators in the field of visual art, film, design, architecture, and to give opportunities to work in Tokyo.
For the period from May to July 2025, two Japan-based creators who would engage in creative activities based on the theme “Technology and the future of humanity.” Together with two creators of “International Creator Residency Program (Theme Projects),” the 4 creators who work on the theme will seek to actively exchange ideas on the cultural differences in thoughts, recognitions, actions and languages, while working independently on their own projects. The result of their residency will be presented at the Open Studio and/or Result Exhibition.
What TOKAS offers?
- Room (single room) (Twin room provided for duos)
- Shared studio
- Accommodation fee: 3,500 yen per day (excluding consumption tax)
- Production fee: 300,000 yen (excluding consumption tax)
- Domestic transportation fee (The most economical regular route and method from the nearest station to your residence to TOKAS Residency)
Duration
- Early May to late July 2025.
Eligibility Criteria
- Wants to broaden the scope of their activities by working and discussing with internationally active creators.
- Creators
- Creators active in the fields of visual art, film/video, design, or architecture
- Creators eager to interact with other resident creators and curators
- Residing in Japan (having a resident card in Japan)
- Having at least 5 years of experience in the field in which you are active
- Having the English proficiency to actively communicate with overseas creators
- Being able to live, create, and conduct research independently
- If you pass the first round of selection, you must attend the interview for the second round of selection (Online interviews are also acceptable if you live far away)
- Creators working individually or as a duo
- In principle, students are not eligible.
- However, this does not include students enrolled in a doctoral course at the time of their stay.
