Deadline: 1 April 2024
Applications are now open for the Galerí and Kannski Exhibition.
Open Calls
- Galerí
- Galerí Perhaps is an artist-run exhibition space in the center of Reykjavík.
- They accept exhibition proposals from individuals, couples or groups. They are looking for artists to participate in one or more spaces they have access to; in the main gallery, Samfélagshúsin on Vitatorg or the square with the greenhouses at Hverfisgatu.
- Kannski
- Kannski is an artist run gallery space in downtown Reykjavik. Each year, they hold an open call and pull from the results to host group, solo, or individual shows.
- They accept proposals from individuals, pairs, or groups. They are looking for artists to engage with one or more of the spaces they have access to; the main gallery, the community center nearby, the outside area with the greenhouses.
Goals
- Galerí
- They want to give all kinds of artists the opportunity to show their work, both of Icelandic and foreign origin. They are looking for art that is different from what is being shown in Reykjavík at the moment. It is important to them to make an impartial assessment of applications and select artists, based only on the exhibition proposal and not on their position in the Icelandic (or other) art scene.
- Kannski
- The goal is a truly objective open call. All work will be judged blind by a panel. Applicants will not be judged based off of exhibition experience or status. Applications from POC and LGBTQIA individuals encouraged.
- They look for work in any medium, on any subject, as long as it feels distinct from that already prominent within the Icelandic artistic community.
Funding Information
- Galerí
- They do not charge for the exhibition space or application fee. However, they need to make sure that the space is in good condition, so they take a security deposit (25,000 ISK) which is refunded after the exhibition. However, they will deduct from that amount if the exhibition space is not returned as agreed.
- They do not pay shipping costs if artwork needs to be sent to Iceland. However, if a work needs to be printed, they have access to a large printer and it is no problem to print for you at a reasonable price.
- If you want works in the exhibition to be for sale, a 20% commission is charged.
- Kannski
- They do, however, charge a deposit of $180 (25.000 ISK) for the use of the space. They will pull from the deposit if the space isn’t returned to the condition it was left in, for return shipping, or if an artist withdraws without sufficient warning.
- They also can’t pay for shipping fees for art. However, if you have work that can be printed, they have a professional printer, and are more than happy to print your work for you for cost.
- If you wish to sell your work at Kannski, they would be delighted to work with you on that. They charge a 20% commission.
