Deadline: 18 June 2025
The Lazio Innova intends to support individual innovators and teams in the development of new projects, prototypes and solutions that can be presented at the next Rome Maker Faire the European Edition 2025, scheduled from 17 to 19 October, and/or in the events connected to it.
The initiative is aimed at students, entrepreneurs, makers, designers and talents who wish to acquire basic skills in the main areas of digital manufacturing and with these skills give shape to an idea that can range from the development of a prototype, to the creation of design or interactive objects, up to the creative reuse of waste (residue from the processing of various materials or products) of processing.
Themes
- Making a Low-Alcohol Canned Drink: Hard Seltzer or Cider
- Bioarchitecture and sustainability in action
- Artificial Intelligence and Fashion: Create with AI and Digital Fabrication
- Arcade Faber: Create your own 80’s style arcade video game
- Dynamic Photovoltaic with Tracking: to produce energy follow the sun
- Robotics and AI: Integrate LLM and Intelligent Agents in Robotics
- Lost-wax casting: from design to metallurgical production
- Boardgame Jam: From Idea to Game in Record Time
Objectives
- The ever-increasing attention to issues of environmental relevance is causing the world of craftsmanship and industry to open up more to the creation of eco-sustainable objects; in fact, they talk about eco-design to indicate a new way of conceiving production and craftsmanship.
- Furthermore, the introduction on the market of small, low-cost, increasingly high-performance microcontrollers and sensors allows for countless innovations, radically accelerating prototyping processes in various fields of application.
- The aim is to support interdisciplinary groups in the creation of products and in the acquisition of experiences and skills, taking advantage of the availability of equipment, technologies and services present in regional FabLabs.
Benefits
- Use of machinery and devices for the realization of projects.
- The machines and devices useful for the realization of the projects are:
- FDM 3D printers: for the creation of three-dimensional objects with thermoplastic filament material;
- Laser cutter: cutting and engraving of thin sheets of wood, acrylic, leather, felt and cardboard;
- CNC milling machines: creation of three-dimensional objects (bas-reliefs) starting from a block of material (wood, extruded materials);
- Inkjet printing plotter: high definition printing on paper, canvas and adhesive vinyl;
- UV printing plotter: inkjet printing on any flat material, even porous;
- Arduino programmable board and related sensors for electronic prototyping to complete the prototype created.
- Participants will be assisted by specialized technicians.
- Certificate of participation
- Each participant will be given a certificate of participation.
- Participation in Maker Faire Rome 2024
- The best projects, selected at the sole discretion of the Faber School teachers, will be presented at the Maker Faire.
- Maker Academy
- Each Faber School will be followed by a training day to delve into the topics covered during the Faber course.
Eligible Projects
- The projects, which will be carried out in groups, may consist of the development of:
- A prototype
- The prototype may also consist of a preliminary model, mockup, or other example built to test a concept or process.
- A prototype
- A new design object
- An innovative Digital Manufacturing solution
- A process by which a physical object can be created starting from a previous processing with specific software. EX. 3D modeling on software of an object and subsequent creation of the same using 3D printers.
- Each participant will be able to propose their own project but the final decision on what will be created will be taken by the teacher in agreement with all the other participants.
Eligibility Criteria
- Maker
- Inventors, scientists, craftsmen and artists, researchers
- Freelancers
- Designer
- University and ITS students
- People with skills in digital design and prototyping, also developed in SMEs and Startups
- Who have already turned 18.
