The NRF-SAEON invites applicants to participate in an ‘Ocean, Meteorology, and Climate Change for the Southern Hemisphere’ Art Competition for learners from grades R-12 based in South Africa.
This competition aims to inspire and educate on the beautiful and interconnected Earth systems and highlight some of the challenges posed by climate change, through your artwork. Winning entries will be showcased at the 14th ICSHMO to be held in Cape Town in 2025.

- Your artwork can be based on any one of the themes for this year’s art competition:
- Grade R-7:

- The magic of seasons in the Southern Hemisphere

- Grade 8-12:

Benefits
- Prizes for each category include a tablet and vouchers/books.
Eligibility Criteria
- This competition is open to all school learners from grades R-12 based in South Africa.
- All entry form needs to be signed off by the parent/guardian as learners are under the age of 18.
Judging Criteria
- Entries will be judged in the primary school and high school categories.
- The judges will make the final decision on the awarding of the prizes.
Application Requirements
- All entries need to be done on A4 white non-glossy paper and should be submitted as a high-resolution digital image either in Jpg, TIF or PDF format to the email address before the 14th of October 2024 at 5 pm South African Standard Time. Please make sure that when scanning or taking photographs of your artwork there is no glare and they receive visible artwork.
- All works submitted for this competition must be learners’ original works.
- Any scientific facts or statistics used in the artwork need to be accurate and attributed correctly.
- No copyrighted materials are allowed in this artwork and if there is copyrighted material, the artwork will be disqualified.
