Deadline: 31 March 2024
Goethe-Institut Indonesia is looking for applications for its space-defining exhibition program, GoetheHaus Foyer, under the theme: Utopia.
There are many notes, observations, and interpretations about “utopia” in recent memory/times. The term and concept “utopia” could be applied to a range of issues: movements regarding gender equality, as an umbrella term in an effort to change the society, imagining “utopia” as a physical space, re-framing of nationality, to the contemplation of life. With these many different interpolations, they want to hear your thoughts and to manifest them in the iconic space.
Selected proposals will receive an allowance that could be used for honorarium purposes and production costs. The Goethe-Institut programme team will gladly support the exhibition and needs within the organizational realm.
What they offer?
- They provide a free usage fee and a lump sum of up to Rp 30.000.000, including fees, technical/production, and public programme. They can cover the travel expenses (flight/train ticket economy class and three nights’ accommodation in Jakarta) for the selected artists that live and work outside Greater Jakarta.
- If relevant, you can also use the equipment and resources, e.g., technical assistance for display and dismantling. Feel free to find additional partners/sponsors, these should, however, be stated in the application.
- Goethe-Institut Jakarta team will cover the PR work (design, text, translation, and promotion), documentation, technical advice, snacks and entertainment at the opening, on a limited basis.
What they look for?
- They encourage activities and installations in the form of artworks, presentations of ongoing/results of the research/art projects, films/videos, performance art, symposiums, workshops. They are also open to any experiments, durational performances, site specific installations, on-the-spot artwork production, interactive projects, and other things they don’t mention.
- Durable (at least for one month) and practical (easy to install and dismantle). They are keen to have low-maintenance and weather resistance artworks as they often have high traffic on the premises and need to be flexible with the other needs/events.
- Preferably, fill up the space, literally and figuratively.
Eligibility
- Art practitioners based in Indonesia.
- An individual or a group. The majority of the applicants should work and live in Indonesia.
- Applicants have produced and exhibited at least three artworks. Digital artworks that are featured in social media will not be considered.
