The Voices Creative Writing Competition is a positive and celebratory platform for young people in or leaving care to express their feelings creatively and help raise awareness of what it means to be care-experienced.
Theme
- The theme of this year’s competition is ‘My Voice’.
Benefits
- Prizes will be awarded to 24 shortlisted candidates. The shortlisted candidates will receive a book voucher:
- The winners will receive £100 ‘Love to Shop’ voucher.
- Second place will receive a £50 ‘Love to Shop’ voucher.
- Third place will receive a £25 ‘Love to Shop’ voucher.
Eligibility Criteria
- Voices is open to young people currently in care and care leavers who will be aged between 4 and 25 years old and who are full-time residents of the UK (this includes the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man). This also includes as well as separated minors or former separated minors.
Judging Criteria
- Each piece of writing will be judged on the following criteria:
- Theme: How well does it match the theme of ‘My Voice’?
- Voice: How strong, original and unique is the voice?
- Emotive: How well does it engage the readers’ emotions?
Application Requirements
- Entries must be 500 words or under and can be submitted in written form or video format including poems, short stories, raps, songs or newspaper articles. There are four age categories: primary school (4-10), lower secondary school (age 11-14), upper secondary school (age 15-17) and care leavers (age 18-25).
- They can only accept entries written in English.
