The National Essay Competition, targeted at senior secondary students in Nigeria, is organised annually, as part of UBA Foundation’s education initiative which aims to promote the reading culture and encourage healthy and intellectual competition amongst secondary school students in Nigeria and across Africa.

Prize Information
- Winner: N7.5 million educational grant to any African University
- 1st Runner-Up: N5 million educational grant to any African University
- 2nd Runner-Up: N3.5 million educational grant to any African University
- Also, the best 75 essays that qualify for the regional test will get N75,000 each.
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a Nigerian Senior Secondary School Student
Selection Criteria
- Entries received for the competition will be reviewed by a distinguished panel of judges made up of professors from reputable Nigerian Universities, who will then shortlist 75 essays for further assessment.
- Following this, there will be a regional test (North, South, East , and West) where the 75 shortlisted participants will write a supervised essay. You will be expected to select your preferred region while filling the form.
- 20 finalists will be selected from the 75 to sit for the third and final round which will be held at the UBA Head Office Lagos. The three best essays will be selected as the top 3 winners of the competition.

- All incomplete and/or duplicate entries will be disqualified.
