The Academy of Finland is seeking applications for its Academy Professorship Program.
The Academy of Finland’s central mission is to fund high-quality scientific research. Research funded by the Academy of Finland is also expected to be scientifically and socially impactful and responsible.
The applicant is an individual researcher who is already at the international forefront of their field and will become an international top researcher during their term. The candidate for Academy Professorship is expected to have a diverse impact both during and after the term. They must also present a concrete plan for continuing internationally high-level research after the funding period. The funding for a six-year period can cover the applicant’s salary, the salary costs of a possible research group, and other research costs.
The position of Academy Professor is intended for a high-level scientist whose research renews science, strives for scientific breakthroughs and seeks solutions for the benefit of society. The aim of Academy Professorship funding is that the applicant, who is already at the international forefront of his/her field, will both become an international top researcher during his/her term and strengthen and raise the level of expertise in his/her field in Finland. The position of Academy Professor is granted for a maximum of six years. Funding can be granted for salary and other costs of implementing the research plan.
Funding Information
- The maximum grant is 2.4 million euros for six years. Funding can be applied for and used flexibly during the funding period according to research needs.
- Funding for the position of Academy Professor is granted for six years. The funding period is 1 January 2026–31 December 2031.
Eligible Expenses
- Academy funding can be applied for to cover, for example, the following direct research costs:
- Academy professor’s own salary
- research team salary
- necessary costs incurred in carrying out the research
- traveling expenses
- domestic cooperation and mobility
- international cooperation and mobility
- preparation of international projects
Eligibility Criteria
- The applicant is an individual researcher who must:
- demonstrate that they are at the international forefront of their field and are capable of becoming a top international researcher during their term.
- promotes diverse impact both during and after the season.
- to strengthen and raise the level of expertise in its field in Finland.
- present a concrete plan for continuing internationally high-quality research after the funding period.
