The European Music Managers Alliance (EMMA) now invites music managers to apply for their EMMpower Mentorship Programme.
This free programme aims to provide professional support to managers looking to further develop their competencies in today’s music industry.
EMMpower Mentorship Programme seeks European music managers for mentor and mentee roles.
Mentees gain one-on-one mentoring, a tailored education programme, workshops, and access to the EMMA community. Mentors receive training to enhance their mentoring skills.
Both mentors and mentees will benefit from unique professional development opportunities and access to a network of industry peers.
For Mentee
- This application is open to emerging music managers at the beginning of their journey, seeking to gain knowledge and tools to advance their and their artists’ career.
- To apply as a mentee, candidates should have the following:
- Currently residing and actively working within Europe
- At least 2 years of experience as an artist manager with proven local or international achievements
- At least 2 years of experience working with an artist or band, with achievements that can be demonstrated as a result of their managerial work, prioritizing the artist’s career development locally and internationally
- Experience participating in key events and initiatives in the music industry in the last two years, including music and showcase festivals, projects, and partnerships
- Actively involved in developing a network of industry relations, both locally and internationally
- At least 50% of the candidate’s professional activity is carried out as a music manager.
- As part of the EMMpower Mentorship Programme, mentees will receive the following:
- 16 hours of one-on-one mentoring sessions with an experienced mentor
- Professional development online workshops
- Opportunities for networking, knowledge exchange, and collaboration with a pan-European community of music managers
- The ideal candidate should also meet the following criteria:
- A good understanding of the basics of the music industry
- Strategic skills and an outline of the artist/band’s career development over the next two years
- The ability to identify the primary challenges in managerial work and areas of competency that need improvement.
- The ability to articulate why they wish to participate in the EMMpower Mentorship Programme
- The recruitment committee will focus on music managers who have a clear vision of themselves as music managers and are committed to building a career in the music industry.
- As part of the EMMpower Mentorship Programme, mentees are required to:
- Attend and complete 16 hours of one-on-one mentoring sessions
- Regularly report progress
- Set SMART business goals at the beginning of the EMMpower Mentorship Programme and present results afterward.
- Participate in all online professional development and networking sessions.
- Complete evaluation surveys on time.
For Mentor
- They are looking for experienced European music managers passionate about helping the next generation of professionals grow their careers in the music industry.
- Required experience for future mentors:
- Currently residing and actively working within Europe
- Min. 7 years of continuous activity in the local and international music industry
- Min. 5 years experience as an artist manager (documented by the artist’s achievements on the market)
- Experience of active participation in key events, projects and initiatives of the international music industry, e.g. music and showcase festivals, conferences, partnerships
- Having a well-developed network in the international music industry
- Required managerial skills:
- High strategic competence with an emphasis on the ability to plan the long-term development of an artist’s career
- Competences in building an artist’s brand
- In-depth expertise in at least one of the listed music industry areas: release and distribution, streaming, music marketing and promotion, publishing and/or synchronization, business models and business plans, contracts and copyrights, booking, export
- Good understanding of the structure of the music industry (roles, processes)
- Business competencies supporting building the financial sustainability of artist
- Interpersonal competencies (ability to build relationships, communication skills)
- Psychological competences: the ability to cope with stress, managing emotions.
- Additional competences:
- Attention! As part of the programme, managers dedicated to the role of mentors will undergo professional training in mentoring competences which will equip them with the most important tools, skills, attitudes and processes supporting them in fulfilling the mentoring role at the highest level.
- Nevertheless, the following will be welcome:
- Previous experience as a mentor, educator or coach
- Willingness to share knowledge and interest in supporting the development of other people
- As part of the EMMpower programme, mentors receive:
- Remuneration: 2,500 EUR
- Professional mentoring skills training, preparing you to act as mentors in a more effective way
- Periodic supervision meetings supporting mentors in their role, providing tools, expert insights and solutions for current challenges in working with mentee
- Access to the EMMA community and networking opportunities
- Mentors are obliged to:
- Participation in the mentoring training
- Online mentoring sessions with two mentees. Each mentee is eligible for 16 hours of mentoring in the period April – December 2024
- Involvement in the whole programme – not only mentoring sessions, but also participation in supervision meetings, EMMA community networking meetings and (if possible) participation in educational monthly online workshops
- Review of mentees’ business plans.
