The United Nations Development Programme in Kazakhstan (UNDP) in partnership with Climate Box project announces the launch of the “Climate Does Not Wait” Republican Competition of Climate Projects of Schoolchildren.
Objectives
- Identification and promotion of advanced project and research ideas and initiatives of schoolchildren in the field of climate change.
- Intensification of educational and awareness-raising activities of general educational institutions to create understanding among schoolchildren of the problems related to climate change in Kazakhstan, their environmental and moral education, through the development of their interest in project-research work on the study and preservation of the environment.
- Attracting attention to water and resource-saving as a complete system of rational consumption of electricity, heat, water, food, and other resources in everyday life and the socio-economic sphere, as well as the interrelation of climate, water, energy, and socio-economic issues and the role of each person in their solution.
Categories
- Water is the basis of life, in this nomination projects on water conservation and efficient water use under climate change conditions are accepted.
- Sun and wind-clean energy of nature, this category accepts projects demonstrating or proposing the use of renewable energy sources in households, agriculture, and other sectors of the economy.
- Climate habits of life, this category accepts projects that demonstrate practical approaches to changing the behavior of society in the context of climate change and their dissemination to the general public.
Award Information
- The winners of the competition will be invited to the awarding ceremony and to take part in the International Climate School Festival, which will be held at the end of October 2024 in Almaty.
- Travel, accommodation, and meals for the winners will be provided at the expense of the Organizer.
Eligibility Criteria
- Children aged 12 to 14 years (in grades 6, 7 and 8).
- Competition language: Kazakh, Russian, English.
Ineligibility Criteria
- Team and anonymous works (not containing information about the contestant) are not allowed to participate in the competition and will not be considered.
- Also, projects that do not correspond to the theme of the contest and are based solely on literary data or abstracts will not be considered.
