CFAs: ASEAN Foundation Model ASEAN Meeting Plus Australia 2024

Deadline: 12 July 2024

ASEAN Foundation is pleased to organise the ASEAN Foundation Model ASEAN Meeting Plus Australia 2024, inviting youth from ASEAN, Timor-Leste and Australia to discuss and brainstorm on improving ASEAN-Australia ties for the future.

The program aims to provide these students an authentic experience to understand ASEAN-Australia relations, as well as to enhance essential skills and knowledge, particularly on global awareness, cross-cultural skills, critical and inventive thinking, negotiation, public speaking, consensus-building. In addition, the extension of friendship circles across ASEAN and beyond also paves the way for people-to-people links and pursuing a partnership for the future.

The ASEAN Foundation Model ASEAN Meeting Plus Australian 2024 (AFMAM Plus Australia 2024), invites tertiary education students from the 10 ASEAN countries, Timor-Leste, and Australia to promote and understand the roles and functions of ASEAN and its external partners through a fun yet educational approach and simulations of high-level ASEAN meetings. The program communicates ASEAN and its relations to a younger generation with significant interests in studying international relations and diplomacy.

The AFMAM Plus Australia 2024 will be held at The ASEAN Headquarters/Secretariat in Jakarta, Indonesia from 10 to 14 September 2024.

Theme

  • The theme of the program is ‘50 Years of ASEAN-Australia Dialogue Relations: A Partnership for the Future’.

Program Benefits

  • The program will be organised by the ASEAN Foundation and funded by the Australian Government through the Australian Mission to ASEAN. The program will fully fund round trips from your closest major city in the country of origin to Jakarta, Indonesia, for the AFMAM Plus Australia 2024, visa costs, accommodation, transport in Jakarta and meals. The program will also:
    • Enable you to understand ASEAN diplomacy and how decision-makers of the ASEAN Member States and Dialogue Partners address regional issues by being involved in the authentic simulation exercises.
    • Provide you with an opportunity to improve essential skills and knowledge, particularly on global awareness, cross-cultural skills, critical and inventive thinking, negotiation, public speaking, consensus-building as well as leadership.
    • Provide you with an exciting and unforgettable lifetime experience with us and your peers from other ASEAN Member States, Timor-Leste, and Australia.
    • Bridge a network of young leaders from across ASEAN and Australia.

Program Activities

  • During the program, you will participate in a series of activities:
    • Pre-Conference Online Training: The online training for delegates is designed to ensure that the delegates attending the AFMAM Plus Australia 2024 have a certain degree of knowledge competence on ASEAN, the themes and topics, and foreign policy.
    • In-Conference Training: On the first day of the conference, delegates would undergo training/informal consultation sessions to prepare them for further committee sessions. The sessions during the in-conference training cover information on a) Understanding the ASEAN Secretariat and Chair role; b) Protocols on Chairing and Facilitating; and c) Developing and Amending the Chair’s Statement.
    • The AFMAM Plus Australia 2024: As the main event of the program, the AFMAM Plus Australia 2024 Conference will provide an avenue for delegates to experience a role as high-level ASEAN and Australian officials and partake in a series of ASEAN and ASEAN Plus meetings, leading to an Outcome Document which will be signed upon completion of the Program.
