The artsnb’s Career Development program is designed to recognize and encourage arts professionals who have demonstrated exceptional artistic talent and potential, and who are pursuing a career in the arts.
The program is divided in three components:
- The Arts by Invitation component is for assistance to present work by invitation in established arts events.
- The Professional Development component is for assistance for professional development scholarships for studies and mentorships.
- The Professionalization and Promotion component is designed to assist artists to produce tools related to the promotion of the artist’s work and career with a view to broadening the dissemination network for their work and diversifying their sources for funding.
Objectives
- Career Development Arts by Invitation:
- The Arts by Invitation component is designed to:
- Promote arts in New Brunswick by assisting professional artists to present work by invitation in New Brunswick and at out-of-province established arts events of national or international repute;
- Promote, encourage and increase the participation and representation of New Brunswick professional artists in arts festivals, competitions and exhibitions; and
- Increase opportunities for New Brunswick artists to promote and disseminate their work.
- The Arts by Invitation component is designed to:
- Career Development Professional Development:
- The Career Development program is designed to recognize and encourage arts professionals who have demonstrated exceptional artistic talent and potential, and who are pursuing a career in the arts.
- Career Development Professionalization and Promotion:
- The Career Development program is designed to recognize and encourage arts professionals who have demonstrated exceptional artistic talent and potential, and who are pursuing a career in the arts.
Funding Information
- Career Development Arts by Invitation:
- Amount of up to $3,000.
- Career Development Professional Development:
- $3,000 for full-time studies or $2,000 for part-time or short-term studies.
- Career Development Professionalization and Promotion:
- Amount of up to $2,000.
Eligible Expenses
- Eligible expenses are limited to:
- Transportation including fare for plane, bus or train; ground transportation such as taxis, tolls and parking; and freight and cargo expenses OR $0.58 per kilometre travelled in a personal vehicle.
- Accommodation and subsistence including per diem allowance (suggested amount of $60 per day) and hotel costs OR $25 per night billeting allowance if the applicant is hosted by family, friends, or a host organization.
Ineligible Expenses
- Capital expenses (eg. equipment purchase such as a musical instrument, camera, computer, etc.)
Eligible Projects
- Career Development Arts by Invitation:
- Eligible projects Eligible projects are those in which:
- The applicant has been invited to have their work performed, screened, or exhibited at an established arts festival, competition, venue, or exhibition, AND
- The event takes place more than 150 km away from the applicant’s residence.
- Eligible projects Eligible projects are those in which:
- Career Development Professional Development:
- Eligible projects are those in which the applicant intends to study one of the eligible artistic disciplines by enrolling in:
- A full-time or part-time post-secondary program; or
- A full-time program in a school specializing in the arts; or
- Short-term studies or mentorship with a private instructor
- Eligible projects are those in which the applicant intends to study one of the eligible artistic disciplines by enrolling in:
- Career Development Professionalization and Promotion:
- Eligible projects must meet one of the following criteria:
- The applicant intends to hire a professional to document their artwork for their professional portfolio (eg. photographing visual artwork, filming a performance for promotional purposes; producing professional headshots);
- The applicant intends to collaborate with a professional art critic or independent curator to produce an exhibition catalogue or other documentation to promote their work;
- The applicant intends to hire a professional editor to revise or edit written work;
- The applicant intends to hire a professional to develop a website or upgrade an existing website to showcase their professional artwork.
- Eligible projects must meet one of the following criteria:
Ineligible Projects
- Ineligible projects also include:
- Projects produced for the purposes of academic credit or as part of basic training;
- Projects produced as part of the applicant’s work as an employee of a private or public organisation or institution, including their work as an employee in education, academia, or journalism.
Eligibility Criteria
- Career Development Arts by Invitation:
- In order to be eligible for artsnb funding, an applicant must:
- Be a Canadian citizen, have an affiliation with a First Nation on Turtle Island, be a permanent resident of Canada or have an application for permanent resident in process;
- Have resided in New Brunswick for at least one year (12 months) prior to the application deadline;
- Must qualify as a professional artist according to the guidelines.
