The BDFIL in partnership with Caran d’Ache and the Typewriter Museum are inviting applications for the BDFIL – Caran d’Ache Prize Competition for emerging comic book artists, which aims to promote emerging artists.
Theme
- The theme for the 2025 edition is “Bleu de travail” (Blue Workwear).
Prize Information
- The winners of the three BDFIL prizes will be invited to the opening of the exhibition and the awards ceremony on September 27, 2025, at the Typewriter Museum in Lausanne.
- Awarded CHF 5,000 to be shared among the winners.
- Three BDFIL prizes:
- 1st Prize CHF 2,000 and the creation of the visual for the 2025 competition flyer
- 2nd Prize CHF 1,500
- 3rd Prize CHF 1,000
- A public prize of CHF 500 will be awarded by visitors to the exhibition.
Eligibility Criteria
- The BDFIL – Caran d’Ache Prize competition for emerging artists is open to anyone aged 15 and over, residing in Switzerland or abroad, whose work has never been published in album form or regularly in a mass-circulation media outlet, including blogs hosted and/or relayed by magazines or online publishing houses.
Judging Criteria
- Under the guidance of a comic strip artist, the competition jury will be composed of a member of a museum institution, a specialist journalist, an editor, a member of the University of Lausanne’s comic strip study group, a Caran d’Ache member, and a representative of BDFIL.
- The jury will assess compliance with the conditions of these rules, originality, and the particular qualities of the scenario (production, layout, etc.) and graphic design.
Application Requirements
- The project must be submitted on an A3 (29.7 x 42 cm) vertical format. Projects that are not within the theme or format will be automatically excluded from the competition. The author is free to choose the style, form, and materials used for the project.
- The language used for any texts and dialogues must be French or English.
- The participant’s contact details must be clearly written on the back of the project: surname, first name, date of birth (day/month/year), full postal address, telephone number (landline and/or mobile) and email address. The participant must also indicate the working technique used for its creation and, where applicable, for its coloring.
