The West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use (WASCAL) Graduate Study Programme in Climate Change and Agriculture is pleased to announce application for Doctoral programme in Climate Change and Agriculture.
WASCAL is a wholly West African international organization with focus on academic and transdisciplinary research, building graduate-level scientific capacity and serving policy makers in West Africa with science-based advice on adaptation to climate change impacts and land use management.
The PhD programme in Climate Change & Agriculture aims at training highly qualified human resources for West African countries in anticipating the effects of Climate Change on Agriculture.
Eligibility Criteria
- The entry requirements into the programme are the following:
- Candidates must be from the WASCAL country members;
- Candidates must have a Master Degree, or its equivalent in Soil Sciences, Crop Sciences, Agro-forestry, Forestry, Animal Sciences, Integrated Pest Management (IPM) or other relevant disciplines, with an academic performance of at least 60 % (Second Class Upper or Assez Bien);
- Experience with modeling routines or GIS would be an advantage but not a prerequisite
Application Requirements
- Candidates must submit the following documents:
- Completed application form;
- Birth certificate;
- Certificate of nationality;
- Two recent passport photos;
- MSc degree or equivalent
- Transcript of records of MSc or equivalent;
- Abstract of the MSc (or equivalent) thesis;
- BSc degree or equivalent;
- Transcript of records of BSc or equivalent;
- Abstract of the BSc (or equivalent) thesis;
- Detailed CV;
- Letter of motivation (personal statement should include the student’s academic and personal qualities as well as his/her interests in research in the area of Climate Change and Agriculture);
- A PhD pre-proposal (which will be improved under the guidance of supervisors, if admitted);
- Support letter from employer (if employed) granting study leave, in case of success;
- Support letter(s) from your sponsor(s) granting fellowship, in case of success if you are a fee paying candidate/student;
- Names and contact details of 3 references, one of whom must be his/her Master’s supervisor.
- The following are the language requirements:
- Basic Certificate in English Language;
- Functional Certificate in English Language.
