Deadline: 15 December 2024
The East Quay is looking for a hands-on individual with exemplary creative vision to realize an external artwork/sculptural intervention, that will connect the coastal footpath with the first floor terrace of the building.
The aim of the artwork is to draw visitors into the building, where they will discover a selection of artist studios, beautiful views across the Bristol channel, two contemporary art galleries, a cafe, and more!
Themes
- They are asking artists to submit proposals which respond to the theme of ‘Joy & Wonder’. Below are some questions they have been thinking about as an organisation in relation to this theme, which could be a useful starting point to consider.
- Joy & Wonder:
- Do they need joy for liberation? What is radical joy?
- How can art capture and convey moments of wonder and joy in everyday life?
- How can they create spaces for people to experience a sense of wonder and joy, especially in challenging times?
- What role can joy, wonder, positivity and hope play in humanity’s capacity to imagine and work towards a better future?
- What is the relationship between joy, wonder, and creativity, and how do these fuel the expansion of ideas and dreams?
- What is the relationship between joy, wonder, and mental health, and how can promoting these emotions contribute to overall wellness and resilience?
- Why is the sense of wonder particularly strong in childhood, and how can it be nurtured and maintained into adulthood?
- How do social interactions and community relationships influence the experience of joy and what role do social bonds play in enhancing these emotions?
- In what ways do natural environments and experiences in nature contribute to feelings of joy and wonder, and how can preserving natural spaces foster these emotions?
- How can societies ensure that opportunities for joy and wonder are available to all?
- How do they retain hope through tough times, and can art help?
