L’AiR Arts, a not-for-profit organisation with a mission to support intercultural exchange, launches a call for partner institutions interested in creating art residency opportunities at the historic Atelier 11 Cité Falguière in Paris, France.
Recently recognized as a heritage site, Atelier 11 is scheduled to undergo rehabilitation to continue welcoming artists and cultural professionals as an International Arts Research Residency, celebrating the open and inclusive spirit of the École de Paris.
Residency Resources
- The purpose of the L’AiR Arts residency program is to support intercultural exchange, research, professional development and creation.
- Residents will have the opportunity to connect with the Parisian arts community, meet other visiting and local artists, scholars, curators, and institutions from various disciplines to exchange ideas, share skills and present their work.
- Depending on the project and the resident’s needs, the L’AiR Arts residency program at Atelier 11 offers the following resources:
- Two individual furnished living studios with en-suite bathrooms
- Meeting space with a fully equipped kitchen
- Communal studio and exhibition space (30m2 / 320 sq feet)
- Communal multimedia arts space (30m2 / 320 sq feet)
- Research library on modern and contemporary art
- Networking and research support (relevant visits and meetings)
- Programming and event support (open studio, exhibition, talk, etc.)
- Communications support (website, e-news, social media)
- One-year membership and invitation to participate in special residency
- projects and events
Partnership Terms
- Partner institutions are invited to co-curate the residency depending on their mission/goals and support their candidate’s creative practice and career development during and following the residency.
- The following are not provided by L’AiR Arts, and should be covered by the partner institution or resident:
- Travel expenses to and from Paris
- Visa – the candidate must be legally allowed to stay in France for the residency period (L’AiR Arts will provide an official invitation letter, but cannot assist with visa applications)
- Insurance covering medical/hospitalization fees and civil liability
- Stipend towards research and/or production
- Living expenses (1000€/month recommended)
- Partner contribution towards Atelier 11 heritage project
Who can apply?
- In preparation for the 150th Anniversary of Atelier 11 after its re-opening, L’AiR Arts is inviting cultural, academic and arts institutions in France and abroad to participate in this living heritage project and nominate their candidates for an inaugural residency season starting in 2025.
- The Atelier 11 residency program is designed for artists and cultural professionals from any creative discipline who wish to develop their artistic research and/or project on a topic/theme of their choice, for a period of two weeks to two months.
- Applications must be supported by one or several cultural partners.
Resident Profile
- The L’AiR Arts residency program at Atelier 11 mirrors the symbol for equality = a horizontal exchange between artists and cultural professionals from various cultural backgrounds, of different ages and genders, working in various disciplines and at all stages of their professional careers.
- To attend the residency, the nominated candidate must be:
- Financially supported by one or several associated partners
- Active in their professional life and able to provide proof of previous work
- Proficient in English to be able to interact within the international community. Knowledge of French is not required
- Sufficiently independent to manage their residency.
