Applications are now open for any artist with an original artistic research project, in the fields of arts or ideas, that requires an immersion stay in the Nordic region.
This project will present a link with the challenges of the explored territories and will be able to generate an active dialogue with the local actors encountered.
The disciplines considered may be, in a non-exhaustive manner, the following: visual arts, architecture, design, crafts, live performance, music, cinema, series, literature, comics, digital creation (immersive experiences, video games and others forms of creation linked to new technologies, including artificial intelligence and virtual reality), podcast, culinary arts, etc. Multidisciplinary projects are also eligible.
Only individual applications are accepted, due to the demanding constraints of homelessness.
Cost Covered
- Commitments from French Institutes:
- The four French Institutes in the Nordic zone undertake to cover the costs relating to the stay according to the following terms.
- Are supported:
- Travel between France and the different stages of the stay in the Nordic zone.
- Accommodation for the entire duration of the residence
- A residence allowance of 1300 euros per month, or 2600 euros for the entire residence.
- A daily allowance of €70 per day to cover daily expenses (meals, telephone and bank charges, etc.).
- No expenses other than the costs mentioned above will be covered.
- A coordinator will be designated to be the contact person, referent for the residency program within the Nordic French Institutes. Discussion times are planned before the trip for preparations, both logistically and artistically.
Commitments of the selected Artist
- Work exclusively on the project presented and selected by the jury during the residency.
- Feed a digital travel diary on the Polar Steps application.
- Respect the time frames and the itinerary agreed with the four Nordic French Institutes.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be able to prove:
- the age of 18 reached before the date of departure for residence.
- French nationality or residence in France for at least 5 years.
- fluent practice of English.
- coverage by European health, civil liability and repatriation insurance.
- authorization to carry out their activity.
Selection Criteria
- The quality of the candidate’s career: the candidate exercises his or her artistic practice in a professional capacity, he or she is recognized by his or her peers, his or her project for the residency is part of a logical sequence by relation to his journey;
- The quality of the project: the project is clear and the artistic axes that it develops are relevant with regard to the Nordic context, it requires the candidate to come to the region;
- The feasibility of the project: The Nordic French Institutes reserve the right not to host projects that they are not able to support.
