The Braybrook Community-Engaged Artist Residency is open to artists of all genres and mediums who can deliver an arts project that is developed with the Braybrook community, celebrating its people, perspectives or local environment.
The resident artist/s will engage the community as essential co-creators in the work and present arts participation opportunities suited to a range of ages, backgrounds, time commitments and arts experience levels.
The resident artists are expected to build a deep connection to the community, working part-time over approximately a 3 month period on a creative project. There is no requirement for applicants to either live or work in the City of Maribyrnong, however, connection to the local community and strong demonstrated experience in community arts practice, will be viewed positively. Maribyrnong Arts & Culture encourages applications from First Nations and culturally diverse artists.
Benefits
- Artist fees of $10,000 as well as working materials (value to be confirmed with the selected artist)
- Provision of spaces at the Braybrook Community Hub during your residency

- Marketing support for any public outcomes or events that form part of your residency
- Advice and support from Arts and Culture staff (as required)
Eligibility Criteria
- Maribyrnong Arts and Culture is looking for high quality, ambitious proposals that:
- Highly engage the Braybrook communities in arts and culture;
- Demonstrate engagement with contemporary art practices contexts;
- Offer an existing practice or project that can be developed across the duration of the residency;
- Deliver artistic, cultural and social outcomes for the community through the arts;
- Provide opportunities for the community to create and share stories, culture, perspectives or their environment;
- Increase the relevance and accessibility of arts and culture within Maribyrnong.
Selection Criteria
- A demonstrated connection to Melbourne’s West.
- A clearly articulated project demonstrating strong community-engaged artistic practice
- An outcome that celebrates the people, perspectives or local environment of the Braybrook community
- Proficiency in project management including a strong project timeline.
- A balanced, and realistic budge.
