The Basis has announced its Artist in Residence Frankfurt Program to promote contemporary visual arts and international exchange between the city of Frankfurt and emerging art centers worldwide.
The artist residency, a collaboration between basis eV and the Goethe-Institut Malaysia with Lostgens, aims to initiate and support new approaches to the production, study, understanding, and significance of art; to promote artistic research and interdisciplinary creativity; and to provide a platform for international cultural practitioners to freely explore, research, and network.

Eligibility Criteria
- The program is aimed exclusively at visual artists who live and work in Frankfurt
- The artists should be highly qualified and have successfully graduated from an art school
- The artists should have English language skills
- This year the focus of the residency is on (analog) book printing and printing techniques; an interest in these topics is highly recommended
Selection Criteria
- An independent Frankfurt jury selects up to five candidates and proposes them to the independent jury of the host country. The jury then chooses a scholarship recipient based on the criteria of who will benefit artistically from the three-month stay and who best fits the exchange program of the respective institution.

- Documents must be submitted digitally via the online form. Incomplete applications or applications that do not use the appropriate application form will not be considered.
- Meaningful application documents, submitted via the form and in English, include:
- Explanations:
- Of the artistic career (max. 1,500 characters including spaces)
- Of interest and, if applicable, experience with book printing and printing techniques (max. 1,500 characters including spaces)
- Planned projects/expectations during the residency (max. 3,000 characters including spaces)
