Deadline: 2 June 2024
The Goethe-Institut is pleased to announce an open call for the Sasikirana Dance Camp for dancers from all over Indonesia who are interested in exploring themes connected with the urban environment and related issues.
By selecting 20 young dancers, this 7-day programme aims to map the diversity of dance potential in Indonesia. At the same time, it seeks to identify emerging Indonesian contemporary dance artists who are aware of the socio-cultural and geopolitical situation, as well as the specificities of dance practices in different regions of the country.
The theme “Time Invader: Bodies In/Out of Place” has been chosen as the conceptual framework for the Sasikirana Dance Camp. In dance, there are three main elements: energy, space, and time. Choreography is created with the awareness that the body generates energy which is processed to master a specific space within a certain period of time. Beyond that, the art of dance has the potential to present the body in such a way that it can transcend time. Classical and traditional dances, passed down through generations, bring dance movements created decades or even hundreds of years ago to contemporary audiences.
