Are you interested in representing the voices of adolescent boys in your community and becoming an expert advisor for UNICEF Pacific? Do you want an opportunity to learn skills in advocacy, public speaking and leadership? The UNICEF has launched a Pacific Adolescent Boys Advisory Group to help inform its work with children and adolescents.
It will provide a platform for meaningful participation and engagement of boys by involving them in UNICEF’s programme design, campaigns and advocacy work – helping to improve child-centered and child-led programming in the Pacific.
This Group will engage adolescent boys on topics and issues that affect them (mental health, self-esteem, bullying prevention, online safety, role models, social media, education, gender equality and healthy relationships).
Topics
- Mental health, self-esteem and well-being;
- Gender equality and masculinities;
- Healthy relationships;
- Male role models;
- Bullying prevention and digital safety; and
- Advocacy and awareness raising on online platforms for adolescents.
What to expect?
- Successful applicants will sign onto an 18-month agreement with roughly 5-8 hours per month of engagement expected from you. This includes planned & agreed activities, talanoa, workshops and events. These could include:
- Developing creative advocacy messages and online content for teens
- Participating in codesign workshops for UNICEF youth programmes or helping design social media campaigns blog/vlog/post on youth topics
- Public speaking opportunities at children/youth regional events and awareness days.
- Participating in UNICEF consultations, focus group discussions, surveys.
- Raise awareness on UNICEF U Report Activations in your country/community.
- Participating in training on advocacy, public speaking, civic participation, gender equality, digital online safety and bullying prevention.
- Participating in quarterly online group meetings and attend in person workshops in Fiji, Solomon Islands and other selected Pacific Countries.
Parent and Guardian Consent
- Parental/guardian consent will be requested for all applicants under 18 years of age, who are shortlisted for an interview. All participants under 18 must be accompanied by a guardian for international travel and events. UNICEF will provide a safeguarding induction and orientation for parents/guardians on the Adolescent Advisory Group.
Eligibility Criteria
- You are eligible to apply if your answer is yes for these statement:
- Are you Interested to become an Adolescent Advisor with UNICEF?
- Are you living in Kiribati, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, Fiji, Tonga, Samoa, Tuvalu, Tokelau, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Marshall Islands or Micronesia?
- Are you aged between 15-19 years old?
