The Asia New Zealand Foundation Te Whītau Tūhono invites applications from visual arts decision makers to join a delegation attending the ARTJOG Curators Tour 2025 in Indonesia.
Participants will engage with Indonesia’s vibrant contemporary art scene by visiting key cultural hubs in Jakarta, Yogyakarta, and Denpasar and attending the ARTJOG 2025 opening on 20 June. In addition, Jakarta and Denpasar are also included in the itinerary to provide participants with a broader understanding of Indonesia’s diverse contemporary art ecosystem, with Jakarta offering insights into the dynamic urban art scene and Denpasar showcasing the unique integration of traditional and contemporary Balinese art practices.
The tour aims to deepen professional relationships, foster cultural exchange, and explore opportunities for collaboration between New Zealand and Indonesian arts sectors. Delegates will:
- Expand networks with Indonesian artists and institutions.
- Develop a deeper understanding of contemporary Indonesian art practices.
- Identify potential collaborations or opportunities for exhibitions in New Zealand.
- Enrich their curatorial practice with fresh perspectives and insights.
Costs Covered
- The Foundation will provide:
- International flights
- Domestic travel in Indonesia (flights and train)
- Accommodation
- Entry to scheduled activities
- A daily per diem.
- Applicants must arrange their own:
- Travel insurance and travel documentation (including entry visas).
- Transfers to and from their closest New Zealand airport.
Eligibility Criteria
- They are seeking applications from:
- Curators at any career stage actively contributing to New Zealand’s visual arts sector and seeking to enhance their engagement with Asia.
- Visual arts professionals with proven interest in Asian art and the ability to determine or influence visual arts programming and exhibitions.
- Applicants must be:
- New Zealand citizens or have permanent resident status.
- In good health.
Application Requirements
- Successful applicants are expected to:
- Commit to the full period of the tour.
- Share their experience and learnings with the New Zealand arts sector upon return.
- Submit a report evaluating the visit within one month of their return.
- Successful applicants will be required to agree to the standard terms and conditions for Asia New Zealand Foundation funding recipients.
- Reporting requirements
- Delegates may be asked to write a 700-800-word article (or contribute media such as photos or videos) on their tour experience that will appear on the Foundation’s website.
- They are also expected to seek opportunities to share their tour experiences on returning to New Zealand and to remain engaged with the Asia New Zealand Foundation.
