The Academy of Fine Arts in partnership with the International City of Arts are pleased to invite applications for their Arts Residency Programmes to provide professional support for artists in residence on the Cité’s Montmartre and Marais sites.
This programme encourages mobility and encounters between artists on the international scene. It is in line with the institution’s approach of developing partnerships to provide financial and professional support for artists, while offering tailored assistance and opening up to the Parisian context and artistic network.

Program Specifications
- Visual Arts program: 4 residencies of 10 months, from September 03, 2025 to June 30, 2026, are proposed. The recipients of the Académie des beaux-arts x Cité internationale des arts “Visual Arts” program are hosted at the Cité internationale des arts’ Montmartre site.
- The program includes:
- The provision of a live-in studio (approximately 50 m2) on the Montmartre site of the Cité internationale des arts.
- Artistic and professional support from members and correspondents of the Académie des beaux-arts, as well as from the Cité internationale des arts’ team.
- Architecture & Landscape program: 1 residency of 5 months, from September 03, 2025 to January 26, 2026 or from February 03 to June 26, 2026 is proposed. The recipient of the Académie des beaux-arts x Cité internationale des arts “Architecture & Landscape” program is hosted on the site of the Marais de la Cité.
- The program includes:
- The provision of a studio-living space (approximately 35 m2) on the Marais site of the Cité internationale des arts.
- Artistic and professional support from members and correspondents of the Académie des beaux-arts, as well as from the Cité internationale des arts team.
- Choreography program: 1 residency of 5 months, from September 03, 2025 to January 26, 2026 or from February 03 to June 26, 2026 is proposed. The recipient of the Académie des beaux-arts x Cité internationale des arts “Choregraphy” program is hosted on the site of the Marais de la Cité.
- The program includes:
- The provision of a live-in studio (approximately 60 m2) on the Marais site of the Cité internationale des arts.
- Access to the rehearsal studios on the Marais site of the Cité internationale des arts.
- Artistic and professional support from members and correspondents of the Académie des beaux-arts, as well as from the Cité internationale des arts team.
Funding Information
- Visual Arts program:
- The payment by the Académie des beaux-arts of a monthly living allowance of 1500 euros gross.
- The payment by the Académie des beaux-arts of a production grant of up to 5,000 euros (all taxes included), delivered with prior agreement and presentation of supporting documents.
- Architecture & Landscape program:
- The payment by the Académie des beaux-arts of a monthly living allowance of 1500 euros gross.
- The payment by the Académie des beaux-arts of a production grant of up to 3,000 euros (all taxes included), delivered with prior agreement and presentation of supporting documents.
- Choreography program:
- Payment by the Académie des beaux-arts of a monthly living allowance of 1500 euros gross.
- The payment by the Académie des beaux-arts of a production grant of up to 3000 euros (including tax), delivered with prior agreement and presentation of supporting documents.
Eligibility Criteria
- Visual Arts program: artists from all disciplines in the field of visual arts and from the sections represented by the Académie des beaux-arts: engraving and drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, film and audiovisual. There is no age limit, but applicants must be able to show that they have been practising art for at least 5 years and have exhibited their work in a solo show and/or at an international art fair.
- Architecture & Landscape program: architects, and landscape designers are eligible. There is no age limit, but candidates must have a degree in their discipline.
- Choreography program: choreographers are eligible to apply. There is no age limit, but candidates must be able to demonstrate at least 5 years of artistic professional practice, and at least one professional dance performance.
- The call for applications is open to artists of all nationalities, living in France or abroad. Transportation and moving expenses are not covered.
Ineligibility Criteria
- Applications from artists who have already benefited from a residency at the Cité internationale des arts are not eligible.
Application Requirements
- The application should include:
- A complete curriculum vitae.
- A note of intent of 3 pages maximum in which the candidate explains the reasons for his or her approach and more particularly his or her desire to join this program.
- An artistic file of 20 pages maximum which can also include internet links to websites, videos, photo platforms etc.
- This application must be completed by a letter of recommendation from a qualified personality or the head of a public or private structure (school, cultural institution, gallery, association, publishing house, company in the creative and cultural industries, etc.).
