Deadline: 8 April 2025
Applications are now open for the Linocut Contest to promote original artwork in linocut printmaking to new audiences.
TYPA’s Linocut Contest is a yearly event, celebrating Estonian and international printmakers of all ages. Every year they invite artists from all over to take part by submitting their linocut printed artworks into their exhibition. The exhibition is also accompanied by a series of workshops, held at TYPA.
Theme
- TYPA has chosen “Ex Libris” for the theme of its annual contest. Latin for “from the books” or “from the library,” Ex Libris refers to decorative or printed labels placed inside books to show ownership. These often feature motifs that characterise the person or facility. Ex Libris usually include the owner’s name with the inscription.
Categories
- Winners will be announced in four categories:
- Grand Prix: selected by the artists’ committee.
- Youth Prize: selected by the artists’ committee.
- Public Prize: selected by an online voting system found on Facebook.
- TYPA Special Prize: selected by the TYPA team.
Eligibility Criteria
- The contest is open to all artists and non-artist from all over the world and of all ages. Anyone can join, except for the TYPA staff and organisational team.
- Artists can submit 1 artwork, which will only be eligible to win in one category.
- Artists warrant that their submissions are their own original work, and do not infringe on the copyright of other artists.
Application Requirements
- Artworks should be printed on A5 paper (14.8 x 21 cm). Other sized papers will not be considered nor returned. The image can be smaller than A5 – fitting with the Ex-Libris style.
- True to the historic form, artwork should contain the words “Ex Libris” and the name of the artist (this can consist of either; the artist’s full name; first name; last name; initials or an artist’s mark).
- The plates must be cut from linoleum or other linoleum-like soft materials. Mixed media works will not be considered nor returned.
- The artworks must be well packaged to avoid damage (they recommend flat packing with a hard cardboard) and sent without passe-partout or any other form of mounting.
- The name of the artists and the title of the artwork must be written on the back of the print. Moreover, they must submit their personal details and register artwork through the form. This information includes:
- Name
- Date of birth
- Country of origin or residency
- Email address
- Phone number
- Title of the artwork
- Address (to which the organization should send the artwork back) and confirmation if the artist wishes the artwork to be returned after the contest and the exhibition.
