Award Information
- 1st Place: N500,000
- 2nd Place: N300,000
- 3rd Place: N200,000
The Problem
- One of every two strokes is caused by high blood pressure. People often refer to high blood pressure as “The Silent Killer.” In Nigeria, stroke is a leading cause of death and disability among adults. High blood pressure, also known as hypertension, raises the chances of having a stroke. This is also becoming more concerning for Nigerians and their health. Around 1 in 25 young individuals aged 12 to 19 years old might have high blood pressure. This indicates that not just adults, but also young people could face the risk of having a stroke if high blood pressure is not identified and treated early.
The Solution
- They believe in the power of music to promote health and well-being. They also believe it can be used to prevent high blood pressure and increase stroke awareness in Nigeria. They are calling for Nigerian music which includes: Highlife music, Afrobeat, Juju music, Gospel, Hip-hop, R&B, and more to create a movement that empowers young people and their families. They are calling on all Nigerians to express themselves, gain recognition, and get their music heard while helping them achieve a world where Nigerian Music can be used to prevent high blood pressure and increase stroke awareness.
Who can participate?
- They are looking for innovative thinkers from all industries and sectors. If your life has been touched by hypertension or stroke in any way—be it a loved one, your community, or personally, whether you work in healthcare or outside of it—they want to hear your ideas. No matter who you are, or from what sector you hail, your innovative solutions could help millions of people striving to feel more in control of their own health. They especially invite participation from young people, aged 14-24 years residing in Nigeria. They are also open to having teams of 4 people, with each team having one person, at most, that is above 24 years old to co-create musical content.
