TotalEnergies Sustainability Design Award – UAE

The competitive award seeks to nurture potential and encourage creative practice by providing a launch-pad for emerging designers and architects across the UAE. The award is open under the theme of Sustainability to acknowledge and celebrate excellence in sustainable design and architecture.

The world today is facing broad and complex challenges that threaten every aspect of the lives. The architect’s call to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public has a new and broader meaning amid challenges such as increasing climate extremes. Architecture can harness the power of design to contribute to solutions addressing the most significant needs of the time. Every project can be used as a platform for addressing big problems and providing creative solutions. Every line drawn should be a source of good in the world.

Key considerations: innovation, functionality, expertise, measurable sustainable qualities in the medium- to long-term.

Winner(s)

• The winner(s) will receive a cash prize of AED 10,000.
• The winner will attend the Award ceremony which may take place during the Abu Dhabi Festival in March 2024 and receive a certificate.
• The winning work will be displayed in one of the Abu Dhabi Festival venues in 2024.

Admission and Selection Criteria

• Submissions are welcome from Emirati nationals aged between 18 and 35 years.
• Each application must be supported by a nominator.
• Projects can be submitted in one below categories:
  • Architecture
  • Interior Architecture
  • Landscape Architecture
• Nominator and Applicant are requested to submit a completed application form together with a design proposal in Architecture and design, the design should address at least one of the sustainability’s three main pillars: economic, environmental, and social.
• Entries can be submitted as conceptual designs, in progress, or as completed projects.
• Projects should be those that demonstrate the systematic integration of sustainability.
• A jury selects the winner and shall be looking for the following attributes in entries: Concept Development, Feasibility of Design, Functionality and usefulness, Creativity and Originality, and Overall Aesthetic.

Terms & Conditions

• The competition is free to enter.
• By entering this competition, an entrant is indicating his/her agreement to be bound by these terms and conditions.
• A nominator may submit up to three nominations.
• Entries may be submitted in Arabic or English.
• Only completed entries will be accepted and submissions will not be returned.
• The applicant of the nominated entry confirms that he/she has not been paid for their work.
• Neither students nor nominators will receive payment for their entries.
