Applications are now open for the Sanlam Group Awards for Excellence in Financial Journalism to recognize exceptional financial journalism in Africa.

- Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) which has the following two subcategories:
- Business and the Environment – i.e. stories reporting on the impact of business practices, transactions, and so forth on the environment
- Business and Society – i.e. stories reporting on the impact of business practices, transactions and so forth on society and communities
- Broadcast: Radio/Audio stories on financial news
- Broadcast: Television/Video stories on financial news
- Top Awards:
- Best Newcomer
- Lifetime Achievement
- Financial Journalist of the Year
Award Information
- Each category winner receives R30,000 prize money. The Best Newcomer receives R25,000. The overall winner – financial journalist of the year – receives R40,000.
- All winners receive a certificate of recognition.
Eligibility Criteria
- The awards are open to African journalists in print, online, radio and TV media who are based in Africa, working in an African news organisation and publish or broadcast their financial stories on the continent.
Selection Criteria
- An independent panel of judges selects the winners of the awards. The panel comprises retired business editors, media trainers, academics in journalism, economists, and communications advisors.
- The winning entries are selected according to a criteria including news value, impact, rigour in reporting, analytical value, originality, integrity, demonstration of specialist knowledge on the subject matter and storytelling.
