The El Instituto Prensa y Sociedad and Transparency International has announced the 2025 edition of the Javier Valdez Latin American Investigative Journalism Award, aimed at stimulating professional excellence in this field.
The organizers hope to foster greater transparency in governments, businesses, and the media. The award is open to all investigative work on matters of public interest.
Award Information
- The winner receives a prize of US$5,000 (five thousand American dollars).
Eligibility Criteria
- Journalists can apply as individuals or as a research team, with one or more works published in a media outlet in Latin America and the Caribbean, whether in Spanish, Portuguese, or English. Research teams will designate a representative upon registration.
- Works published in print, radio, television, or electronic media are eligible, with certification that they were published during that period.
Ineligibility Criteria
- Media outlets or companies are not eligible to participate, nor are books accepted. Investigations published unsigned or under a pseudonym will be accepted with a certification of authorship issued by the outlet.
Application Requirements
- Applications sent in physical form to the postal address will not be accepted.
- Along with the participating work, a digital photograph of the author and an Executive Summary of the research must be sent, which must develop the following information in no more than 2,000 words:
- Title, publication medium, author’s name, and brief resume.
- Numbered research disclosures.
- Methodological description of the research: explaining its origins, hypotheses, types of research and sources, resources used, and time taken.
- Research problem: Why was journalistic investigation required to obtain the information? Social impact of the work after publication.
