Open call for ALA Art Prize 2024 (Italy)

The winning work becomes part of the company art collection housed in the company headquarters within the Mediterranean Theater of the Mostra d’Oltremare in Naples.

Purpose

• The objective of the Call is to select a new artistic project, without technical constraints but compatible with the spaces of the ALA headquarters and in line with the values and the mission of the company.

Theme

• What does taking care mean today? Of oneself, of the other than oneself, of things, of art? «To Care», «To Cure» listen to needs, allow time. It is an affective work, a re-generative action of physical bodies and symbolic bodies.
• The open call aims to be a moment of reflection to explore, through visual languages, the phenomenology of care. Without hesitating to investigate the risks associated with excessive care. Where attention turns into control and love is lost in exclusivity, when the protection of a presumed integrity of the body – private and collective – raises boundaries and individual well-being prevails over a healthy principle of community, taking care risks representing a misleading metaphor for exclusion.
• The 2024 edition invites them to imagine ‘taking care’ as a social, cultural and political experience, stimulating them to reflect on power dynamics, on the bonds of mutual dependence and on the construction of a community based on sharing and care. collective: practices as narratives to rethink the margins between dimensions public and intimate spheres offering new perspectives on care as a form of investigation and documentation on human relationships, vulnerability and attention to the lives of others.

Prize

• The winning project will be awarded a cash prize of €10,000.00 net of taxes deemed applicable by law, as a sum inclusive of all costs, including production and insured transport, relating to the work, ownership of which will be transferred without any reservation to ALA SpA by virtue of the acceptance of this regulation.
• The winning artist will also receive a fee of €2,000.00, net of taxes deemed applicable by law. In the case of a collective of artists, the amount is to be considered paid to the collective and not to the individual members.

Participation Requirements

• The Call is open to all artists, artists or collectives of artists of Italian or foreign nationality, originating and/or residing in Italy who operate or have operated stably over the last 5 years on Italian territory and who accept this document without reservation regulation.
• Participants must be between the ages of 18 and 40 collective. In case of artists the requirement applies to at least one member of the group.
• Participants must have to their credit at least 3 personal or collective exhibitions held in the last 5 years in a public or private museum institution, gallery, cultural center, verifiable foundation and recognized as such. In the case of artist collectives, the requirement applies to the group and not to the individual member.
